|Birth Month||Traditional Stone||Modern Stone|
This list of birthstones was created because of an unknown author of the 1800's, who wrote poems where each month of the year was devoted to a gemstone.
Tiffany and Co. in 1870 adopted these poems and published a document which commercialised the gemstones as birthstones and the idea of buying jewellery as a gift for a birthday.
1912 was the next major change in the regulating of birthstones. This was initiated by the then called; American National Association of Jewellers now known as Jewellers of America.
Changes to this continue to be made sometimes the reasons are to make stones more affordable to purchase and others are to help retailers build a business.
There are many websites and books that provided information in detail about the how different cultures, religions, time periods and spiritual, metaphysical points of view have attached their meanings to gemstones.
History around births stones can be traced to many Ancient people cultures and their beliefs. Different meanings were regularly placed on gemstones and still are as new ones are discovered.
In biblical recordings, Aaron the Priest and brother of Moses, a prophet of God wore a special Holy Clothing which had a Crystal Breast Plate of 12 gemstones, each representing the twelve tribes of Israel. This was set in four even rows the first row was Sardius, Topaz, and Carbuncle, the second-row emerald, sapphire, and diamond. the third row a ligure, agate, and amethyst and the fourth row a beryl, and onyx, and jasper.
In the fifth century AD, St. Jerome made the connection between the 12 gemstones and the 12 signs of the zodiac.
It is recorded that in Indian Aruveydic philosophy every person was given a birthstone that corresponded their nature.
Metaphysics Information about the Golden Age of Atlantis states that when babies were born, crystals from their home planet materialised beside them.
